We currently have openings for a part-time tour guide, who drives the trolley and delivers a scripted narration as they go along, with room for personal interjections as opportunity allows. The work is seasonal; our main season is April through November. Weekend work is required, in rotation with other drivers. We do not operate on Sunday mornings.

This is a fun, interesting job with lots of variety. Ideal for actors/actresses looking for daytime income!

On-the-job training starts at $8; fully-qualified guides earn $16/hour, or more with experience, plus tips.

We also have openings for drivers to do shuttle work, mostly weddings, mostly on weekends, and often in the late afternoon/evening hours. They do not narrate a guided tour. Pay is commensurate with experience.

Prior experience driving an oversized vehicle is required (e.g., RV motorhome, delivery truck). A CDL license is needed, and we will train candidates who are otherwise qualified to obtain the CDL. (You must be at least 21 years old to have a CDL license.)

Drug testing is performed prior to and randomly during employment.

Contact us for details, a job application and physical qualifcations for the CDL license. And, if you haven’t done so yet, come take the tour soon!

TOUR GUIDE DESCRIPTION

Tour Guides drive a multi-passenger trolley bus around Annapolis and environs, while describing the points of interest along the way. They keep the vehicle clean and fueled, and restock brochures and visitor guides. Cooperating with Visitor Center staff and volunteers, they update schedules and reservation sheets in the Visitor Center. They answer visitors’ inquiries about Annapolis in general and the tour in particular. They make boarding announcements and direct customers from the Visitor Center to the trolley. They collect fares, making correct change.

They possess good driving skills, maneuvering a 90" wide vehicle through narrow streets.

Because they deal with the public and are ambassadors of Annapolis to visitors, they are mature and even-tempered, always gracious, and never showing anger or annoyance.

They pick up trash, especially at the loading zone, the overlook, and around the Visitor Center.

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Prior experience driving an oversized vehicle (e.g., RV, truck, schoolbus)
  • Good driving skills and driving record
  • Guiding/docent experience
  • A wide range of interests–history, architecture, botany, travel, reading
  • A good memory
  • A good sense of timing
  • A good sense of direction
  • A good command of the English language, with excellent diction.
  • An outgoing personality (or willing to become that way). Comfortable with public speaking. Decisive–confident and in control--but respectful.
  • Good people skills with a service attitude: patient, courteous, even-tempered. Tactful (sensitive to ethnic and religious differences), maintaining objectivity and enthusiasm. Sensitive to customer’s interests.
  • Commitment to truth; ethical.
  • Commitment to on-going education
  • Access to the internet, email, and a cell phone.
