Here are some tips if you’re visiting Annapolis
in a recreational vehicle:
RV PARKING
For your own peace of mind, we suggest you
don’t try driving downtown. Our narrow streets
make squeezing through tight places with a wide vehicle
an unpleasant way to see Annapolis. And there’s
no parking downtown for an oversized vehicle.
Park at the Naval Academy’s
stadium and take
the Navy Blue Route shuttle downtown. The shuttle
runs every 30 minutes; more often during rush hour.
Tell the driver you want to get off at the Visitor Center.
PROPANE
If you’re coming from the north,
propane tanks are not permitted in either of the tunnels
under the Baltimore harbor on I-95 or I-895. Here are
alternate routes:
Follow the Baltimore beltway, aka I-695, around Baltimore
(Exit 49A eastbound or Exit 35 southbound), and pick
up I-97 (Exit 4) on the south side of town. Note:
If you go the east side around Baltimore, very high
winds on the Francis Scott Key Bridge–part of
I-695--may close the bridge to RV’s--phone 410-288-8573
if in doubt. You can take I-695 the other direction
(the west side--the long way) around Baltimore to
avoid the Key Bridge.
OR,
Avoid Baltimore altogether: In Delaware, get
off I-95 at Exit 1, near Newark, for Delaware Route
896 south. In three miles it will join US Rt. 301 south.
In Maryland, Rt. 301 south joins US Rt. 50 west. Follow
this road across the Bay Bridge to Annapolis. Note:
Very high winds on the Bay Bridge (a.k.a. “the
William Preston Lane Memorial Bridges”) may close
the bridge to RV’s--phone 410-974-1622 if in doubt.
CAMPING
The closest RV park to Annapolis (17 miles)
is Capital
KOA Campground. Open late March through October.
Phone 410-923-2771.
The closest service center/parts supply is Annapolis
RV Center, 10 minutes from downtown on Industrial Drive
off Bestgate Road, across from Westfield Mall: 410-280-0800.
Also nearby is Recreation
World RV (from Rt. 50, take Exit 28 for Bay Dale
Drive and turn right): phone 410-626-8226. Both are
closed on Sundays. Service and/or parts may be open
on Saturdays.
GETTING AROUND
Sometimes the quickest and easiest way to get
around Annapolis is just call a cab: 410-268-2626.
DUMPING STATIONS
Public gray water stations can be found at the Maryland
Welcome Centers on I-95, both northbound and southbound,
between Washington and Baltimore (between exits 36 and
39).
