As home to the world’s finest college serving the finest
navy in the world, and as capital of the State of Maryland, Annapolis
has some special security issues.
US NAVAL ACADEMY – To ensure the safety of the Brigade
of Midshipmen, faculty, staff, and visitors, no vehicle is permitted
on the Yard unless it has a DoD sticker, handicapped tag, or
is on official business with prior authorization.
However, the Naval Academy warmly welcomes visitors on foot!
Just show your photo I.D. if you’re over 16 years old,
and don’t bring any backpacks or large purses (slows you
down, as they will check them).
STATE HOUSE – Plan to visit Maryland’s State
House – the
oldest capitol in continuous legislative use in America. Besides
the Senate and House of Delegates chambers where our legislature
meets, you’ll see interesting exhibits on the events of
national importance that occurred when Congress met here for
nine months in 1783-84.
To help ensure the safety of the building and everyone
in it, you need to show a photo I.D. if you’re
over 16 years old. You will go through a metal detector,
so leave the pocket knives in the car!
